To secure block paving kiln dried sand it brushed between the blocks. This restricts movements, improves the look and limits weed growth. Although, over time extreme weather blows the sand out and weed seedlings blow in between the blocks allowing them to grow, more. The weed growth can push block paving out of position especially as their roots grow beneath the patio of driveway. Therefore, block paving must be regularly cleaned and re-sanding, to improve the look and longevity of your block paving.

Kiln Dried Sand

Kiln dried sand is especially designed for block paving, and the most common used sand to brush between the paving. Although their are alternatives that can be used, such as those which charge a premium for those especially designed to stop weed growth; from our experience, these are no better as stopping weeds as kiln dried sand. As we outlined in one of our blogs, block paving is very popular in Surrey and London. Which like all patios and driveways need regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure their longevity and looks. We recommend cleaning your block paving at least every 2 years, although, if it’s been sealed we can prolong that period to 5 years.
